Making yourself a Priority

Every day we wake up, get ready and do our best to stay on point with our morning schedule so that we can make it on time for work. We work 8 - 12 hours on average to make a living, to keep our bosses happy, to provide for our families and loved ones, and to eventually retire happy.

We put so much effort in because it is our responsibility. It’s a priority for us so that we can find happiness and avoid living a difficult one. But most days we are exhausted. We become unmotivated and disappointed with the situations that come along and slap us in the face. Reminding us that there is a part of our lives we are not happy about. That no matter what we do, there’s a portion of our life that we are unsatisfied with. We feel miserable, unsatisfied, depressed, and sad.

Going day by day, trying to survive mentally, physically, and financially. We continue to go about our lives knowing that changes can be made for the better. Yet we choose to stay in our bubble where it is safe, familiar and comfortable. Leading into unhealthy habits that impact our overall health negatively. Resulting to undesired weight gain, Chronic and acute diseases, injuries, and other physical or mental health issues.

There’s nothing wrong with prioritizing work to ensure you are able to have a life. What IS wrong though, is NOT prioritizing yourself FIRST!

We tend to over look that in order for us to find happiness, to keep up with our busy jobs, personal lives, and other expectations, we need to look after our own personal health. As we all know, cars are expensive. They cost money to purchase, maintain, and to use. But they are essential to our every day lives; from point A to point B. We are always reminded that in order to keep your vehicle running smooth and for extended amount of years, we need to keep them in great mechanical shape.

You fill it with the right fluids, change out the tires and brakes, replace the windshield and wipers. We constantly spend money to keep it running so that we can continue working and our overall living.

Just like a vehicle, our bodies are essential. We need to constantly fill it up with the right food and fluids to keep it running. We get check up’s to make sure that nothing is wrong with the mechanics of our body so that we can continuing living. We go through many appointments for our bodies that some can be avoided if we just kept up with our own health.

Making ourselves a priority to keep up with our physical and mental health improves our strength, endurance, cognitive and positive thinking. It builds our self-worth, which also improves our mood. When you feel great, you do great! Great things keep happening! Even if life comes around and slaps us in the face with something negative, a stronger mind and body will conquer the day and manage our moods for a better outcome.

We deserve to be happy and healthy. We put so much time and effort for others that we owe it to ourselves to recognize that we are our number one priority.

Yes some of your are parents and may not agree with that last statement. Then at least believe that you owe it your kids and loved ones to be at your personal best for them. Managing your mood and overall health allows you to keep up and be ready for any adventure or unexpected thing that requires more time and energy from you.
